About the Author

At the age of 29, I joined the Melrose Fire Department - two months later my wife, Joan, gave birth to our first child Edward D. McCourt. At the time I was running a small trucking company and between the two jobs there wasn’t an extra minute in the day, nor the week for that matter. Eventually the trucking was scaled back, so it might coincide better with my new firefighting career.
